App: WiFi TextScan · Last updated: 2026-04-29
This Privacy Policy describes how the WiFi TextScan mobile application ("the App") handles user data. The App is published by an independent developer.
What the App does
The App scans WiFi credentials (network name and password) printed on physical signs and cards using the device camera, then helps the user save the recognized network on their phone or share it as a QR code.
Data we collect
Processed only on your device — never uploaded
- Camera frames — used in real time for text and QR-code recognition. Frames are not saved or transmitted anywhere.
- WiFi credentials (SSID and password) recognized from camera input. Stored locally in the App's private storage only.
- Approximate WiFi connection speed — measured locally after a successful connection.
- Approximate device location (GPS) — captured as a single coordinate snapshot at the moment of the speed test, stored locally in the App's private storage only.
Anonymous analytics — sent to Google Firebase
- Anonymous usage events: which screens the user opens, how often the "Connect" action is triggered. The actual SSID, password, location, and any other identifying data are never sent.
- Standard Firebase metrics: app version, OS version, device model, country, language. These cannot be used to identify an individual user.
Why we need permissions
- Camera — required to scan printed text and QR codes containing WiFi credentials.
- Location (precise) — required by Android 8.0+ to read the SSID of a connected WiFi network and to log network speed against a coordinate. Location is never tracked in the background.
- WiFi state / Network state — required to list nearby networks for matching with recognized text and to detect a successful connection.
- Internet — required to perform optional speed tests against a public CDN endpoint and to send anonymous Firebase analytics.
How data is shared
The App does not sell, rent, or share user data with third parties. The only external service used is Google Firebase Analytics, which receives anonymized usage events. Google's processing of this data is governed by Firebase Privacy and Security.
Storage and retention
All locally stored data (recognized credentials, speed and GPS logs) is kept inside the App's private storage and is removed when the App is uninstalled. The user can also clear App data from system Settings at any time.
Children's privacy
The App is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect any data from children.
Your rights
Because the App stores data only locally and Firebase Analytics is anonymous, no per-user account or identifier exists to query or delete on the server side. Uninstalling the App, or clearing its data in system Settings, removes all data associated with the App.
Changes to this policy
This policy may be updated to reflect changes in the App's behavior. The "Last updated" date at the top will be revised when this happens.
